How to play
Your kart accelerates on its own, so all you steer is direction: arrow keys or A and D on a keyboard, the on-screen left and right buttons on a phone. Hold a turn past a certain angle and your kart starts to drift, filling a boost meter at the bottom left. Straighten out and the boost fires automatically, no separate button needed. Press Enter, or tap the USE button on mobile, to fire a zap charge forward at whichever racer is ahead of you.
Two laps make a race against three AI opponents that hold a fixed pace all the way through, so a clean lap actually earns you a better finish. Speed orbs give an instant push, shield bubbles absorb one hit from the spinning hazard posts along the track edges, and zap charges knock out whoever is in front. Turbo Kart Circuit keeps the mechanic that made Mario Kart Tour worth picking up for two minutes: drift, charge, release, and feel the kart snap forward. The item variety is here too, in simplified form, with a speed pickup, a defensive shield, and a forward-firing attack that rewards catching up to the racer ahead rather than an automatic rubber-band. Lap times save locally so you always know if you beat your best.
We left out everything that made Tour a live-service app rather than a game you could just play. There is no gacha for karts or drivers, no gem currency, no tour pass, and no account tying your progress to Nintendo’s servers.
