BMI Calculator by Appovo is one of those small, single-purpose Android apps people install, use for ten seconds, and forget about until the next time they need it. That is exactly the kind of job a web page should be able to do without an install. So we built Body Gauge, a free BMI calculator that runs right here in your browser. Move a slider and your BMI, the color band it falls in, and the gauge position all update instantly.

Check your BMI

It opens with a working example already on screen: 170 cm and 70 kg, a BMI of 24.2. Drag the sliders or type your own numbers to make it yours.

How to use it

Set your height and weight with the sliders, or type an exact number into the field above each one. Switch the toggle at the top between metric (cm, kg) and imperial (inches, pounds) at any time; your figures carry over automatically, they just get reread in the other unit. The big number is your BMI, calculated with the standard formula: weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared. Below it, a badge names your range, and the horizontal gauge shows exactly where you land on the underweight-to-obese scale, with the boundary numbers marked so you are never guessing at a color.

There is no calculate button, because there is nothing to wait for. Every drag of a slider recomputes the number live. Your last height and weight are saved on your device so they are already there the next time you open the page. Nothing leaves your browser.

How it compares to BMI Calculator

Body Gauge does one thing: it turns your height and weight into a BMI and shows you the range, fast, on anything with a browser. The full BMI Calculator app goes further. It tracks your weight over time with a history and a chart, calculates ideal weight ranges and daily calorie needs, and supports a broader set of profiles and units for people who check in regularly rather than once.

We kept the core loop: adjust the numbers, watch the result and the gauge move. We deliberately left out weight tracking, calorie targets, and saved profiles, because a page you land on mid-search should answer the one question you came with in a few seconds, not ask you to set up an account first.

Our honest advice: use Body Gauge when you want a quick, one-off number, or want to show someone how the WHO ranges work without either of you installing anything. Install the app when you want to log your weight regularly and see the trend, not just a single reading.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my BMI?

BMI equals your weight in kilograms divided by your height in meters, squared. For example, 70 kg divided by (1.70 m x 1.70 m) works out to about 24.2. The calculator above runs this formula live as you move the height and weight sliders, in either metric or imperial units.

What are the BMI ranges?

The World Health Organization sets four adult ranges: under 18.5 is underweight, 18.5 to 24.9 is normal weight, 25 to 29.9 is overweight, and 30 or above is obese. The gauge on this page marks each boundary so you can see exactly how close your number is to the next range.

Can I use pounds and inches instead of kilograms and centimeters?

Yes. Tap the Imperial toggle above the sliders and both height and weight switch to inches and pounds. Your figures do not change, they are simply reread in the other unit, so the BMI stays consistent either way.

Is this BMI calculator free and does it work offline?

Yes, completely free with no signup. Once the page has loaded, it keeps working without a connection, and your last height and weight are saved in your browser’s local storage on your device only.

Is BMI an accurate health measure?

It is a useful screening number, not a diagnosis. BMI does not distinguish muscle from fat, so athletes and very muscular people often read higher than their actual body fat would suggest, and it does not account for age, sex, or bone density. Use it as a starting point and talk to a healthcare professional for a full picture.

Is this the official BMI Calculator app?

No. Body Gauge is an original tool we built, inspired by the quick-check problem BMI Calculator solves. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Appovo. If you want weight tracking, calorie estimates, and saved history, get the official app from the stores above.
